re in Havana while in Little Havana sipping the best priced drinks in this city, you can listen to The Spam All Stars live. We reference Spam all the time around here, but it somehow has eluded us until now to post this most awesome, strange and jamming video on here:
See you tonight for rum and cokes and grooving like mental patients?

you'll look handsome
up-and-coming swimwear label "we are handsome" has one-piece bathing suits- wait, are you like in shock, "but, miami nice, here in Miami people only wear the tiniest Brazilian bathing suits, those really nasty ones with the seam up the ass crack, and a one-pice if it looks like floss and strips of cloth!"
No fear, even you skanky readers will love their "Miami" one piece (but seriously, why are we grouped with the Delaware?):

so sports aren't the miami nice specialty. Duh, that's what we have the bandwagon city as part of the miami nice family, but this caught my eye on facebook this morning:
There's a group for bringing an MLS team to Miami. Personally, I think we have enough stadiums here to have the World Cup, but baby steps right?
and you can check out their website: www.mlsmiamibid.com

one day in fashion you're in
... if you're lucky enough to get on a realty show competition or if you can win this sweet contest by Miami International Fashion Week. The confusion of Miami Swimweek Mecedez Benz Fashion blah blah blah whatever it was called is cleared up with Miami International Fashion Week. Basically, it's the New York Fashion Week of countries south of us on the Western Hemisphere that mostly speak Spanish (let's not forget Brazil... and Haiti).
Anyway, do your research on Miami International Fashion Week and enter one of their contests:
It would be awesome to see some locals reppin' Miami for this event so if you're a designer (for jewelry or clothes), a graphic designer, or photographer you should totally enter (plus, I just looked at last years winners and they aren't like crazy good so maybe you can actually get picked).
one of last year's winning looks by designer Ramona Rusu.
a nautical inspired look by miami nice interviewee Romina Heighes (you should read our interview with her if you haven't she had lots to say about Miami's use of color in our clothes, why NY is kinda sucky, and what she thinks we should be wearing).

get lowe for cheaper
alright, all my stupid puns aside, the Lowe Art Museum at UM is offering memberships for half off (from $50 to $25), and it seems to me like a good excuse to see some cool shit for cheaper. Of all the Miami art museums, and yes there are enough to call them "all," I think the Lowe's is the most accessible, probably just because it's part of a University. For me, that's what's tough about the art scene, galleries aren't really inviting for people looking to spend their day art gazing, and museums are just so weird to go to in Miami (why, I don't really know but have you ever been to the MAM? I didn't think so).
But, right down the street from Titanic Bar, Moon Thai, and other US1/UM hang-outs you can easily get your 25 bucks worth and make a day out of it. Oh, and here's a fun fact, they have an Andres Serrano in their permanent exhibit. He's that guy that got famous for putting a crucifix in piss. The piece that they have is a discus thrower in piss. Gotta see that right?
(This deal is offered through Groupon, one of those annoying ads that are all over the page. Consider signing up for their list for specials from lingerie to burgers and everything in between.)

Transit Lounge
we've recently interviewed Lanzallamas and artist Luis Valle at Transit Lounge (and we took all those fun pics with the miami nice cards), and we were all like "Transit, Transit, Transit..." but we forgot to tell you a little bit about the venue itself. There's so much to say about this Miami staple venue that I'll direct you to their website, share some pics so you soak up the vibe, and (politely) tell you again to read the interviews with the great people we recently talked to there. If you're bored, almost any night, show up at Transit. It's the only place I can think of that you can play board games, listen to live music, order snacks, shake your booty. If you're lucky it looks like the below post, but if not no worries, Transit is free of that perfect bod pressure of South Beach.

thoughts on booty shorts? It's hot outside and we're used to people wearing itsy bitsy clothes, but where is the line? Below the cheek? Above the cheek?

here's a project in Brazil that someone in Miami should take a cue from. How fun would it be to see some ghetto or just boring place painted over like this project by Favela.

a few question for you
So, miami nice is back from Panama and we have some great pics, restaurants, and 16th century pirate buildings to show you, but more importantly, we have some questions for you.
1.) Are you reading any other local Miami blogs? We're on the hunt for some bloggers to befriend. Know any? Those girls that post pictures of their outfits everyday, a sports blog, or rants on restaurants? Send them over, as usual, to editormiaminice@gmail.com
2.) W Magazine has a new logo (they just italicized the "W") and a new tagline, "it’s not just women’s fashion, but the world of style and, more exactly, our five Ws: the who, the what, the where, the when and the why in the world of style"; and a new direction - "It’s more about fashion in the context of contemporary culture." miami nice is jealous. If anyone can come up with an idea for a tagline we could use one. I think "a summer pop up blog" might get old soon, especially as the summer ends and this blog project comes to an end, we might need more of a mission statement? Help?
(This pic of LeBron makes him look very inquisitive right?.. it's supposed to go with the question theme of the post)

pepper's picks
here's what's lovely at Miss Pepper lately.
First, their window display makes me want to buy everything in it and wear it all at once while going to the beach, and it's featuring (unless some smart cookie listened to me and snatched it up) the best bag/cooler ever made.
Second, they have this parrot necklace that, I swear to god, would look good with anything. Talk about a statement piece that is both understated and interesting. It's so quintessentially Miami that I would be extra proud to wear this necklace outside of the city when I'm looking to represent the tropics via necklace.
Oh, and it occurred to me that perhaps I've never told you that while the stuff at Miss Pepper is super reasonably priced (especially from small designers who make only a small batch of stuff), there's always a great selection in their sale shelves.
Stop on by, and tell them miami nice sent you.

rent-a-bike
here's an idea to entertain yourself while miami nice is slow:
decobike miami beach (or just throw your bike in the trunk of your car and go bike ride, but how could I resist to post about a place that has this picture when you open up their website?
Thanks Prince, for sending this idea over.

today in controversial posts:
miami is nice, but whats up with florida?
Heard of the "Dove World Outreach"? Well my kind friends, its an anti-islamic, anti-politics, anti-gay rights, anti-fun, anti-everything "new testament" church headed in good ol florida. Its master mind (not) and preacher, terry jones, recently came out with a book titled, "islam is of the devil." So one may wonder how this worldy character plans to spend 9/11 (aka his anti-muslim celebration day). lads and ladies, if your looking for a good time terry jones will be burning copies of the Quran in what he calls part of his larger "world outreach strategy" plan, where he so politely attempts to further infiltrate society with hate, hostility and a serious amount of ignoramuses.
watch as homeboy, rick sanchez, attempts to tear him down on cnn:

another blog post on why florida is a dumb state:
newsweek writes "florida researchers develop an Avatar-like role playing video game to promote sexual abstinence among teens. Bus is this the best way to spend $435,000 in tax dollars?"
Great good to know our money is going down the tranny drain!
A little research....
The game, developed by the geniuses in the research department of UCF, is intended for the sexually scorned latina teen.
Its twenty ten people! does anyone else see the irony in the coupling of the future of avatar y technology with the most traditional old school view of sex?
Not going to lie though, as ridiculous as this anti-sex scheme sounds, is as curious as i am to check it out.
Role playing eh? i can try my hand in that, well at least my virtual hand. But what truly confuses me is...well when does role playing ever lead to sexual abstinence?
silly me, i guess i was under the impression that role playing spices things up in the bedroom.
all in all... dumb move UCF, dumb move florida... why am i not so surprised?

miami subs?
What was it?.... miami subs. not because of the restaurant chain's popularity amongst miamians, but mostly because of its a.) name, and b.) super miami logo design.
are miami subs delicious? i have no idea. who even goes there anymore? anyone? anyone like to defend or speak up on behalf of miami subs as a delicious or decent eatery?
interestingly enough for miami subs is its appeal outside of miami as it apparently has locations in both north y south carolina and new york.
i think what sells for them is miami, and perhaps not so much their subs.
-A.Valls
editors note: my mom and I have this weird thing with Miami subs... as in, we go there. While, I've never had the subs, the gyros are really good and the curly fries... something about fried being curly always makes them better.

miami nice MIA
(as in missing in action (another post regarding MIA coming right up...)) perhaps you're wondering where miami nice has been (hopefully at least one of you has missed us)? Well (as S.Darna posted) we've been in Panama (we as in J.Azze and I.. which makes it an official miami nice trip)!
You may be all like, oh em gee, way to abandon miami nice you big jerk, but jeez relax it's only for five days and I'll come back with, you guessed it, a weekend guide.
Panama may be like super far away (not really, but further than the Keys... less far than NY? not sure...) but it's a great getaway, and J.Azze keeps calling it "the beginners guide to South/Central America." Will explain in the meantime.
While I'm gone (I'll be back Tuesday), you may want to take advantage of the restaurants, stores, weird shit, and cafesito places on miami nice that you've been meaning to try. Take a look through the archives and do something nice!
and enjoy these posts by the always insightful A.Valls (who just got back from a wild vacAsian.. maybe if we ask pretty please she'll share some pics and do a write-up?)
