LOL jersey housewife hosts new years at the catalina.
whoever is making the event decisions at The Catalina Hotel on Miami Beach appears to have some pretty mixed taste buds. This New Years Eve watch the ball drop and chug champagne while listening to the Spam All Stars at their party hosted by Melissa and Joe Gorga of Real Housewives of New Jersey. I'll wait while you read that sentence again. Local music latin jam band Spam, comprised of some of the most talented musicians in our city, will play alongside the lyrical genius of Melissa Gorga, who you may, but most likely don't, know from "On Display."
But wait, there's more: the event will also feature synchronized swimmers, a vodka ice luge and a "lavish supper buffet."
If anyone goes to this we beg you to fill us in after, that is if you remember it at all.

ocean reefers, vintage weekend.
this past weekend in Ocean Reef, the members only club in the Keys pretty much the complete opposite of the Jimmy Buffet Keys and ultimate snow-birds paradise, hosted their annual Vintage Weekend. Vintage Weekend, which you can only go to if a member lets you through the front gates, is quintessentially Ocean Reef like; it's full of old rich people wearing plaid shorts and showing off their old shit.
Vintage Weekend is worth visiting if you have the opportunity. They serve Bloody Mary's at 10 am! Plus, they had the world's only car/airplane. Seriously.

bonjour simone, saturday night
there appears to be a French theme at Grand Central this Saturday night; Au Revoir Simone and Kevin Barnes of Of Montreal are hitting up the venue along with free drinks from 9-11 by Absolute. Ok, maybe French night is a stretch, but they speak French in Montreal. Nevermind. The Blow and Class Actress will be there too, plus DJ Mike Deuce and Jessica Who.

martha marcy may marlene not in miami
hey, local indie cinemas (O Cinema, Coral Gables Art Cinema, I'm talking to you) and you big theaters too (most likely Paragon in the Grove (this would be awesome because we could drink while we watch this creepy cult film) or Regal South Beach) why isn't anyone here playing Martha Marcy May Marlene, the Lizzy Olsen Sundance super hit? The closest theater playing it is in Delray. Get with it guys.

super standard
the Standard had a Basel pool party with Native Shoes and a few of the guests looked typically as ridiculous as people like to dress for faux-Miami life aka Basel.

once you pop, in person
the Pringle of Scotland pop-up shop in the Design District was a series of collaborations come together under one temporary roof. The initiative was a collaboration between The Webster, and featured the Pringle of Scotland collaboration with Central Saint Martin, the esteemed London design school.
You may know Pringle of Scotland from their creepy, androgynous ads featuring the White Queen herself Tilda Swinton.
The clothes were an exclusive resort collection with geometric prints that are ubiquitous and unavoidable as an addition to a Miami winter wardrobe, which is everyone else's resort (here's a full explanation). Suckers.

the name was the main draw at this space in Wynwood, and the art wasn't bad either.
something about the two pieces above makes me feel like they'd be best served on a t-shirt.

ok, let's recap. street style.
get ready for a million of the gagillion pictures we snapped around town during Basel.
Let's start with street style. Literally.
Let's start with street style. Literally.
But what the heck is going on here? Well, as I walked around the Midtown Area on the way to Scope (which I never made it it, no worries a full explanation of my distractions coming in later posts. I'm sure you were like, super worried.) I came across two anti-consumerist dudes, a van, and this chick.
The dudes turned out to be Desire Obtain Cherish, provocative contemporary artists working in the street art realm, who pull of stunts like dressing up this girl as a homeless person and sending her around with their stickers and piece. They let us snap this pic before she took off on her renegade mission and we figured we'd post a link to the really cool billboard takeover they did in LA a while back.
